Irony

He was a lightman, part of a theatre group,
his job was to light up the stage,
every day during the rehearsals,
and every night during the live shows.
He shone light on the actors,
the protagonist, the antagonist,
the supporting characters, the props.
Every scene was dramatized, enhanced,
and lit up just right, by his light effects,
his maneuvers, and his quick thinking.
He had an important job he knew,
he was the dark figure in the shadows,
with light in his hands.
While the audience applauded, laughed, gasped, and cried,
inordinately moved by the performances of the actors in the limelight,
his tears, his laughter, his sacrifices, and his pain never saw the light.
Ironic!
